This is probably related to how Impala itself computes the progress, would recommend to ask on https://groups.google.com/a/cloudera.org/forum/#!forum/impala-user as Hue just displays what Impala sends back.

When I start a large Impala query in Hue the log status starts out at 0%, 0 out of XXXX.   The number climbs and the percentage increases up to 42% or so, then stops.   The query is continuing, the log is just not updated, because after a couple of minutes the results appear.   If it is a small query, less than 500 steps, the log increases all the way until it hits 100% at completion.
