I'm trying to build hue from source (https://github.com/cloudera/hue) and am having a hard time getting it to use a version of python other than 2.6.  How does the build process determine what python to use?

Hue is compatible with 2.6 and 2.7, but not tested with other versions: https://github.com/cloudera/hue#main-stack

Does it help?

I understand it's compatible with both, but I'm seeing a lot of warnings/errors throughout the build and deployment processes regarding python2.6.  I'm asking how Hue determines which python to build against.  The "which python" command points to the 2.7 version of python.
