Hi,

I'm trying to connect jvisualvm with my stardog server on a Ubuntu 12.04 server from Windows.

It doesn't seem to work.

I tried the following:
-In my /etc/hosts file the hostname now points to my server ip address
-I've copied the stardog.properties file to my stardog_home directory and enabled jmx remote connections on the default port.

Is a username/password and SSL enabled in the default setting?

I've tried connecting remotely and on the localhost but none seem to work.

My iptables also has no entries and the policies are ACCEPT so I don't think the firewall is causing any problems to.

I'm running Oracle Java 64 bit 1.7.0_51

Any ideas?

With kind regards
Bram

Here is what works for me:

Start Stardog server as follows:

STARDOG_JAVA_ARGS="-Djava.rmi.server.hostname=hostname_for_the_machine"
stardog-admin server start

Open VisualVm on the other machine, select "Add JMX connection", enter
hostname_for_the_machine:5833 for the connection, enable "Use security
credentials" and enter admin/admin as the username/password. Note that
Watchdog is enabled by default so I didn't change my
stardog.properties.

Best,
Evren

It's worth noting that JMX is not enabled for the community version.

Cheers,

Thank you Mike and Evrin for your answers.

I'm using the community version so that would be the problem.

Is there a way to activate it in the community version?

Yes: upgrade to Developer or Enterprise.

OK I've got it working now.

Thank you all.

I'm not sure if I can share the solution here since it is not intended to work in the community version.

With kind regards

Yeah, it's not that JMX doesn't work in Community per se, it's just that the Stardog-specific bits won't be available. You can still use JMX to monitor, etc. standard JVM parameters, etc.

Cheers,
Kendall
