Shayna Atkinson (University of Illinois), Robin Blair (University of Illinois), Ann West (Internet2), and Matthew Economou (RDCT) will be hosting a Birds of a Feather session on Tuesday July 28th at 11am in room 101I.
Abstract: Researchers routinely manage a patchwork of accounts, credentials, and access processes across the tools they need to conduct research. Despite the availability of federated identity solutions, adoption gaps persist while the community's needs continue to evolve.
InCommon Federation and CILogon form a complementary stack: InCommon provides the institutional trust framework; CILogon translates that into tokens research systems actually use. This BOF is a community discovery session. We'll briefly frame the landscape and then open structured dialogue with attendees. Come ready to talk.
In case you missed it: CILogon Staffing Updates
We have some significant changes to CILogon staffing.
First, Terry Fleury retired on July 1st. There would not be a CILogon without Terry and the team greatly misses his expertise and generosity as a collaborator.
Second, Shayna Atkinson is transitioning to working for the team on a full time basis. She will lead the COmanage Registry efforts for CILogon.
Third, Scott Koranda will see his appointment with the Center for Astrophysical Surveys (CAPS) increase to 95% in the fall. Scott plans to spend a few hours each week working on CILogon in the background to support Shayna and the rest of the team, but will not be directly working with subscribers.
Fourth, Jeannette Dopheide has joined the CILogon team in her existing role as an Education, Outreach, and Training Coordinator. Jeannette has worked at NCSA for 12 years and has previously collaborated with members of CILogon on other projects.
Lastly, the team is excited to announce that Josh Drake, now at Indiana University, will be moving to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) to become the new lead for the CILogon project. Josh has most recently been the Director of SOC and Security Services at the Research & Education Networks Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC) and a senior contributor to the National Science Foundation (NSF) National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (Trusted CI) project.
Jim Basney will stay on for a bit to help Josh with the transition, but will fully retire September 1st.

Join us at the Trusted CI NSF Cybersecurity Summit (October 27-29; Irvine, CA). Robin Blair and Ann West will be hosting a Birds of a Feather session on Federated Identity for Research Communities. The agenda hasn’t been published yet, but you can find out more about the Summit at trustedci.org/summit. Registration is open.
Product Highlights
OA4MP: OA4MP which powers CILogon is preparing for a new release. Definite times will be posted on the main CILogon page. In this release, OA4MP (hanve CILogon) will support
Key rotation. This applied to the server as well as virtual issuers
Strictly enforcing custom scope lists for clients
Many smaller fixes throughout.

COmanage: COmanage Registry v4.6.0 was released in April, and the CILogon team is working to upgrade our subscribers to this release as circumstances permit. Registry 4.6.0 features several improvements, including an AWS DynamoDB Session Handler Plugin, and enhanced login and logout session handling using the CakePHP framework, both of which were contributed by our own Robin Blair!
