Dear Colleagues // PERN members,

Just a reminder...

PERN’s cyberseminar on “The habitability concept in the field of population-environment studies: relevance and research implications” is taking place from 13-20 March 2023, organized in collaboration with members of the HABITABLE project consortium (the University of Vienna and Hugo Observatory) and the Columbia Climate School Managed Retreat conference series.

The seminar aims to explore the relevance of the concept of habitability for the field of population-environment research. It will address past critiques of concepts like carrying capacity and concerns over environmental determinism, while recognizing that we live in a world of finite resources, bring in perspectives on systems dynamics and thresholds, as well as approaches that acknowledge human agency.

A kickoff webinar is scheduled for Monday, 13 March, from 9-10:30am New York time (14:00-15:30 CET and Lagos; note: daylight savings time starts on 12 March in the US!). To join the webinar please click on this link:

We look forward to welcoming you and having a fruitful discussion!

Sincerely,
The PERN Team
