Shipping this API outside of an experiment is my goal. Whether that happens and the exact timing depends on a number of factors including developer interest and buy-in from other browser vendors. To that end we encourage you to build experiments using the API. The more cool demos we can point to the easier it is to make the argument that this is a valuable addition to the web platform.

We began the WebUSB experiment in Chrome 54 and I just sent out an updated schedule for continuing the experiment through Chrome 60 with some changes since the original release. The most notable of this is that we are experimenting with allowing top-level frames (i.e., not iframes) to connect to request access to devices whether or not they have the new WebUSB descriptors as defined by the spec. We hope that this will enable more hardware vendors like you to build applications with WebUSB that support your existing devices.

Thank you for trying it out and encouraging our work in this space.

Hello,

I am a member of SatoshiLabs team, we are the developers of Bitcoin TREZOR (USB hardware wallet) - http://bitcointrezor.com/

we are very excited by WebUSB and we started to experiment with it, and it seems it is working pretty great.

However, I am not sure about the estimated time of arrival for all websites. When can we expect webusb to be working everywhere?

Ideally, it should be before Chrome Apps are turned off - we use that today for USB communication (the USB communication happens in the background app, which sends messages back to the webpage through messaging). Right now, you are turning Chrome Apps API off without any fully working equivalent for USB.
