Maybe we could treat "Error getting information from Chrome Status" as fatal and refuse to send the email?

Although at first I was excited about that idea, and went to implement, I then had second thoughts. The issue is that there's no immediate feedback when filling out the form if the script fails to run. So, it's possible the requestor might typo something, or ChromeStatus might be down temporarily, and then no email gets sent, and the requestor has no idea why.

The real solution is to have something more robust than Google Forms + Apps Script, which could perform the appropriate validation and not let you submit if it's incorrect. But building that is harder...

So my inclination for now is to avoid doing anything for now, and if we see further spam of this sort, then reconsider.

Seems fair - I had wondered about silent failures for legit requests with mistakes.

This seems like a form that should live in Chromestatus, given that people already have an entry there when filling it.

It should. One difficulty is that only certain people can create a feature in Chromestatus, and one purpose of a spec mentor can be to help a new spec author get on that list. So we kinda need 2 buttons: one to request a mentor without an existing status entry, and another to request a mentor from inside an existing entry. The first opens us up to spam, but we can require a Google account to do this, and then block spammers, so spamming is at least as expensive as creating fraudulent Google accounts.
