I develop websites, and to keep things manageable I name each of them through my hosts file.

However, using one of those completely prevents me from using the microphone. On http://localhost/test/index.php it will work, but on http://test/index.php (which is exactly the same file) it won't.

Checking the site-settings I get the message "Blocked to protect your privacy".

I've even added an exception for "http://test:80" to Settings > Privacy & Security > Content settings > Microphone, but Chrome still won't let me access the microphone.

I've also tried several command line parameters to no avail.

Is there any way I can avoid Chrome forcing 'protecting my privacy' on my own local system?

You'll need to either use HTTPS or set a command line flag.

(note: this flag is broken in Chrome 63 but works in 62, 64, and 65).

Awesome - that worked. Thank you very much!

Still odd that the exception didn't do diddly-squat, but hey - I can move on... ;-)
