The following changes are coming to Chrome 86.

Canary: today  |  Beta: Sep 3, 2020  |  Stable: Oct 6, 2020

Summary

  • Secure Payment Confirmation: available for Origin Trial

  • Payment Handler UI Refresh on Android: enabled by default

Details

1. Secure Payment Confirmation Available in Origin Trial

Secure Payment Confirmation allows a merchant to trigger WebAuthn-based authentication to securely confirm payments initiated via the Payment Request API. In this Chrome release, an experimental version of the new API is available on MacOS via the Origin Trial process. Developers can sign up for a trial token here.

Please see explainer for how to use this API. If you find a bug or have a feature request, let us know.

2. Payment Handler UI Refresh on Android

The UI for web-based payment handler is revamped on Android to better align with Chrome’s current design language. The new web-based payment handler UI expands when a user scrolls, enabling developers to deliver responsive experiences that make use of all available screen space when needed.
