Hello net-dev's,

At home we only have IPv4 connectivity, but some websites are only available over IPv6.
Whenever i try to go to such a website, i get the exact same error message as that is shown when you go to a non-existing website.

Such websites will randomly exist or not exist depending on your current network.
I think this is beyond less than ideal, it's obfuscating the issue and causing confusion. It's bad.
(It already took me half an hour to figure this out, normal users just can't and would only get frustrated, if they notice at all!)

To prevent this confusion, the error message for an IP mismatch should be clearly different from what it is now.
Ideally it explains the situation and suggests solutions and/or workarounds.

Looking at https://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html , we have gone from 8% IPv6 in 2015 to currently hitting 48%.
And some places already have about 75% of networks on IPv6. ( https://stats.labs.apnic.net/ipv6 )
The amount of IPv6-only websites will only grow, highlighting this problem even more.

This bug should probably get fixed sooner rather than later.

And i found 2 issues regarding this problem that may be of help:

Is there anything that can be done to get this fixed?

Sincerely,
Named. T. Relay

Hello anyone,

Is this mailing list still in use?
(There was not any reply for over a week.)

Have a nice day,
