Good Morning,

I just stumbled across your invitation to tell you about how we are using WebCodecs API:

We have created a pure browser- and cloud-based  screen/cam/mic recorder https://calipio.com where we are making extensive usage of modern web technologies like WebCodecs, insertable streams, service workers etc.

One use case is that we allow the users to record their screen and camera, save them in separate streams in our cloud (end-to-end encrypted!), and then enable users to edit their recordings (cutting, zooming, etc.) and change the composition of the screen and camera streams and ultimately let the browser render a new video using WebCodecs, which is live-streamed as download using a service worker.

Further we use insertable streams for adding live effects during recording like virtual backgrounds etc.

We really love Chromium for their support of the latest and most advanced modern browser APIs. We don't even plan native apps at the moment because we believe pure, modern browser apps are the best for our users.

Hey Daniel,

Thanks so much for sharing these details and encouragement! We're thrilled to hear that this is adding lots of value and making the web platform so attractive.

Please let us know if you spot any feature gaps, performance issues, etc. Our work isn't done :)

Best,
Chris
