Hello, are there plans to add HAR file export to headless Chrome? I've tried this project https://github.com/cyrus-and/chrome-har-capturer but it would be preferable if headless Chrome exposed the built-in "Save as Har with Content" option available from dev tools.

Thanks

I'm not aware of any plans to do this currently.

I think I'd like to defer functionality like this to helper tools to avoid making Headless Shell too complex. What do others think?

I agree. For the DevTools debugger, this functionality is implemented in the front end, too. Seems to make more sense in the client.

My thinking behind this is that this functionality already exists in Chrome but I was not aware that is implemented in the front end. It seems onerous for each client to be required to construct the HAR file themselves rather than have Chrome provide it. If it was available via the Debugging Protocol it would reduce complexity in client applications and also ensure that a consistent and up-to-date HAR file is used.

The HAR generated by https://github.com/cyrus-and/chrome-har-capturer is nowadays more comprehensive than the one that devtools (and the extension API) generates.

I would recommend using that tooling.
