Thanks for reporting the issue.
Tentatively adding components and requesting someone dev from flag or scroll team to kindly look into it and help in proceeding further.

Thanks!!

flags triage: -> owners from flag metadata; it looks like the flag's expiration was extended to M93 in r858014, and that change was merged to 90.0.4430.28, but the flag was only reinstated for Chrome OS there. I'm not sure if it was ever present on Android, since it's marked kOsAura.

Anyway, over to flag owners.

The expiry milestone for that flag was bumped to M93 with https://crrev.com/c/2717849, which should be merged (https://storage.googleapis.com/chromium-find-releases-static/2e1.html#2e139e43e1891692b4e67f391432b0b95861f881) to 90.0.4430.28, so I’m not sure why you’re not seeing it.

Elly, thoughts?

The flag was re-instated only for Chrome OS where it was causing most of the issues (with touchpad scrolling). jinsukkim@ should know better what the status of ovrescroll history navigation with Android is.

It's causing similar issues on Android where touch gestures are an important part in many website UIs. I see no reason to remove this flag

It would be helpful to know sites/pages that don't go well with gesture navigation on Android. Gesture navigation can be improved not to interfere them. Opt-out via chrome://flags can also be considered if it is inevitable.

Changing the browser configuration via chrome://flags is only intended for development purposes and not generally a path to guaranteed / long-term feature control.

+Tom as PM for this feature to consider user feedback / whether a new entry in our settings screen makes sense.

One example of this problem would be posts on Instagram that contain multiple pictures.
For example, this one: https://www.instagram.com/p/CPJgioGDz4M/

If you open this in Chrome on Android, the website UI allows you to flip through the pictures by swiping left and right.
But if you don't swipe carefully, the Chrome overscroll navigation gets triggered and the browser navigates away from the current page.

Having an option in the settings would be even better. I just assumed that I should ask for the flag, since that's what they did on Chrome OS for the same problem.

Thanks for the example. If you switch to system gesture navigation (Settings app -> System -> Gestures -> System navigation -> Gesture navigation), do you feel it also conflict with the slide UI on the page? Android Chrome gesture navigation is supposed to be an alternative to or improvement on the system gesture navigation. I'd like to understand how it feels.
