Announcing shutdown of Venafi CT log server (ctlog-gen2.api.venafi.com)

Hi,

 

Following up to our sunset message sent on 2/22/2018 [1], Venafi is planning on shutting down the infrastructure supporting the Venafi CT log server. After 4/29/2020, the CT log server will no longer be available for servicing any CT client requests.

 

We appreciate the feedback we have gotten from the community over the years. Please direct any questions to this announcement here.

I would like to remind you that Google operates mirrors of the CT logs in the ecosystem. In particular, the aforementioned Venafi CT log can be found under https://ct.googleapis.com/logs/us1/mirrors/venafi_ctlog_gen2/. We will continue operating this mirror after the shutdown.

Hi there,

While responding to an alert on our CT log systems, we ran into an issue restoring the CT log service.

Given the close proximity of service termination (see notice from Walter for 4/29), we have decided to move up this schedule to today (4/27).

Please do advise whether there are any concerns about this action. If we do not hear from you by EOD, the service will be terminated.

Hello Walter and Asquith,

Thank you for keeping us updated on the status of the Venafi Gen2 CT Log. Given the issues encountered and the proximity to the announced turndown date, we have no concern with moving the turndown of this CT Log up by two days.

Since the Gen2 CT Log has been in Read Only for so long, we’ve analyzed whether there are any certificates still depending on embedded SCTs from this Log and determined there are none. Due to this, we will be transitioning this Log to Rejected, which will remove this Log entirely from the set of CT Logs recognized by Chrome. This will be announced in a separate post shortly.
