I just got home from work, opened my CR-48 and get this message. First
does anyone know how its caused? And second, I dont have access to a
Linux or Mac. Only Windows Computers and Android Phones. Any ideas or
do I have to wait until Google decides to make a fix for Windows?

Seems like VirtualBox would be worth a try.

If you have a spare USB or SDHC card (at least 2GB), you can prepare a
recovery disk on Windows by doing the following. This is a modified
version of the instructions at:
http://www.google.com/support/chromeos/bin/answer.py?answer=1046510
with Windows-specific instructions on creating a flash disk from
Hexxeh's wiki at:
http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/wiki/doku.php?id=windows_instructions

1. Download the recovery image. The URL is
https://dl.google.com/dl/chromeos/recovery/latest_mario_beta_channel

2. Unzip the resulting .zip file. You will get a .bin file. This is
the raw disk image that will be written to your flash card/stick. You
MAY need to rename the .bin to .img (I don't know for sure, but one
person's e-mail to me suggested that this was necessary).

3. Get Windows Image Writer: https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer

4. Run Windows Image Writer, select the extracted disk image file, and
the drive letter of your flash card/stick.

5. When the image is done writing, insert the flash card/stick into
your Cr-48, and boot up. Press <space> to start recovery using the
image on the flash card/stick. The recovery process will take around
five minutes.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the help. Todd, I will try that when I
get home tonight.
Also thanks for the links as I would like to try a simple Linux
install. I havent ran Linux in years and am excited to play.
Anyone know why I mightve got this error on the CR-48 though?

One thing I forgot to ask is, did you turn on the developer mode
switch? You'll get the recovery screen if you do that, and you do NOT
hit Ctrl-D at the first boot "warning" screen.

Related, if you were in developer mode, remounted the root file system
read/write, modified anything on there, then went back to
non-developer mode, you will likely get this screen because Verified
Boot (non-developer) mode will detect the changes in the system files.
Same if you installed a non-official image and then switched back to
Verified Boot mode, as the root filesystem will no longer match the
firmware's verification keys.

I just found the cause of my problem. I turned it on developer mode
shortly after I received it and forgot I needed to press Ctrl-D at
boot as I never need to reboot. That is why I was getting the error
screen. Thank you Todd!

I feel embarrassed but im glad a solution was found before I went
further. Thanks for helping!
