Acer pretends it's a hardware problem

Reloading with original code - showing that the machine then functions and then stepping forward to the release which causes the failure will reveal the false statement

we don't generally make old releases available.  what is the board exactly ?  go into chrome://settings/help/details to see.

Got it and got it into a recovery chip - however recovery throws up with "you are using an old ..." - what's next?
