Hello,
I am using chromeOS v112, and had toggled the Bruschetta flag. I launched terminal and a bruschetta container was present, but launching it prompts `Launching vmshell failed: Bruschetta VM bru unknown or disabled by policy`
I've seen posts prior of people attempting to get bruschetta working on older versions of chromeOS. Is there still no sufficient support for bruschetta? If there is, are there any command-line tools I can use? If there isn't, are there still command line tools I can use to remove the bruschetta container?

what do you think bruschetta is? it's not available for you, most likely never will be, and certainly won't be supported if you do install it

Mike,

Is Bruschetta not available to the OP due to managed policies or does your reply pertain to both managed and non-managed users/devices?

I'm currently using beta versions 15329.24.0 / 111.0.5563.31 and see it under:
  • Settings -> Advanced -> Developers -> Bruschetta
There is even a button to turn it on:

But, currently, it just throws the following error:

Hopefully, I'm just misunderstanding your reply and Bruschetta will be available to at least non-managed users/devices at some point.

Thanx,

Thanx Mike, that is disappointing news.

Since it is in Settings I was hoping it just wasn't ready but now I'm not sure why it's even offered to us in Settings. 🤔

It looks like the bloggers have a misunderstanding of it too:

If it is not for 'general use' then can you please explain how it will be implemented and to whom it will be available?

Thanx,
~DennyL

where exactly do you see it in Settings ?

all the links you've provided are rumour mills with no official citations that i can see.

Mike,

It's under 'Settings -> Advanced -> Developers -> Bruschetta' as I mentioned above and gave a partial screenshot.
I'll show a hopefully better screenshot below that shows exactly how to get to it in Settings (also at: chrome://os-settings/crostini) :
bruschetta-settings.jpeg

I understand they are 'rumor mills' but some of them point to actual code, as I did above.
I'll show a link to them again here:

it sounds like you've changed chrome://flags to get non-standard/unreleased behavior.  so i don't think your description "it's even offered to us in Settings" is accurate.

Mike,

Yes, I did flip a flag:

So I suppose when I said it is in Settings it was a bit misleading, sorry. Honestly, I'd forgotten about enabling the flag.
I'm aware that features behind flags are experimental and may go away but it is there for experimentation and that's what many of us are trying to do, so far without success.

Out of curiosity, I enabled the #bruschetta flag (expecting it to not work), but my results are different from Denny's.  Under Settings->Developers->Bruschetta, I don't have an option to turn it on, I have Manage USB devices.

the thing we're calling "bruschetta" is producing some generic functionality when possible. that doesn't mean we'll ship those features by themselves, or that we're calling the individual features "bruschetta".

i would stop spending time looking at these particular things.

Brian,

I noticed that behavior in the past on previous versions, I was able to find bruschetta in the Terminal app too.
When I clicked on bruschetta in the Terminal app it threw an error about a BIOS file missing if I remember correctly

One thing I noticed is that alternative/multi container support seems to be separate from bruschetta even though at some point it appeared they might be related.

I was able to enable multi container support via flags and grab an LXC Arch Linux container and run it after I made a couple tweaks to work around a udev/systemd interaction that causes network issues.

Would you say it is a chasing of the wind? I never understood the end goal. Many settings on my computer are disabled due to my school's admin control.

I'd still like to learn about what bruschetta is, there is no documentation that's readily available to find and learn about,
is it just like a Google dev virtual machine and container service that wasn't designed nor ever be implemented into the stable.

there are no public docs because it's not being released to the public. it's a VM for Google employees to run Google corporate code.
