Having real difficulty installing Chromium..
Yes, I am a bit new to Linux command line stuff, but I've had a look around the internet and most people's issue gets solved by them moving into the repo init directory and I swear I'm still in it.

Any help would be appreciated :)

repo initialized in /home/tom/repo
tom@ubuntu:~/repo$ cros_sdk -- ./build_packages --board=x86-generic
ERROR: Couldn't find the chromite tool cros_sdk.

Please change to a directory inside your Chromium OS source tree
and retry.  If you need to setup a Chromium OS source tree, see
  http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/developer-guide

You need to enter the directory 'chromite/bin' and execute the binary ./cros_sdk

It will take time to download for first time use.

After downloading the sdk, you have to setup your board, before executing build_package,

Building steps in detail can be found by the following link

Is 'chromite/bin' supposed to be inside the same directory you initialise 'repo' in?

Yes, you are supposed to find this folder after downloading the Chromium OS source code.

I think it has downloaded the source, but the folder is empty as far as I can see..

Is there a folder that the process will default to download to if not otherwise specified?

You should have 5 items after downloading the Chromium OS source.

3 folders and 2 files.

chromite, chromium, src
and
AUTHORS, LICENSE

If your download does not match the above files, I would suggest you to download again.

Just tried 'repo init -u https://git.chromium.org/chromiumos/manifest.git' again in a different folder and it still didn't work..

But, I did notice this in the output:

% Total    % Received % Xferd  Average Speed   Time    Time     Time  Current
Dload  Upload   Total   Spent    Left  Speed
  0     0    0     0    0     0      0      0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:--     0
curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404
Server does not provide clone.bundle; ignoring.

Any idea why it's throwing up a 404?

Please check your internet connection.

It works okay on my side.

Attempting download: https://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/chromiumos-sdk/cros-sdk-26.12.12.092356.tar.xz

% Total    % Received % Xferd  Average Speed   Time    Time     Time  Current
Dload  Upload   Total   Spent    Left  Speed

The other way is to download the sdk from the above link and put this compressed file to the folder where you downloaded the Chromium OS source.

you have to run `repo sync` after you run `repo init` and before you
run `cros_sdk`

if you download depot_tools and add that to your $PATH, there is no
need to run any program by using a specific path. cros_sdk in the
depot_tools dir will locate things for you.

Cheers for the reply.

I thought this was going to work, but I still keep getting 404 errors when running 'repo sync' and the command has got stuck in an infinite loop.
I'm currently downloading the source from Sam's link above (cheers for that by the way) and I'll see if that work.

Nobody else these 404 errors? Surely it can't just be me..

you can ignore the messages:
curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404
Server does not provide clone.bundle; ignoring.

i get a bunch of those and it still works
