Hi there,

I just bought a little ASUS transformer, I like this design because you can use it either as a tablet or laptop. It seems like the chrome books don't offer this feature of versatility... or maybe they do, and have not found them, anyhow... here is where i'm at, this machine is delivered with W10 and it is basically unusable as even chrome itself seems to be using too much ressource and makes it a real pain in the a*** to just browse the internet.

I have inquired to the resellers, and of course, they are disputing that.

So since I had a very cool experience in 2014 by installing Chrome OS on an older laptop that had the same problem with ressource I went on Google to look for the new Chrome OS version and, horror, disbelief, Chrome OS is now rebranded as Chromium and is very user unfriendly to install, seems to have fallen down the pits of being a thing for developers, Google does not have much information for us, it is very unclear what happened with the développement of this awesome project that was Chrome OS. What happened to Google developing user friendly platforms?? Is there something I'm missing? I'm very confused.

So now on the practical side of things, I still wish to have Chromium running on my Asus Transformer T100H, however all the builds don't seem to be all happening as per example I have launched Cx86OS-20170127010102 successfully however the display is vertical by default (so it looks sideways), does not recognise the touchscreen and the wifi does not seem to see any of the local router access points.

1- What happened to Chrome OS guys???

2- Any advice on installing Chromium on Asus Transformer T100H?

What?? Chrome OS was *always* like this, and the custom-built versions have *always* been called Chromium OS. You were probably just using a misbranded version.

AFAIK there isn't a straight-up download link or similar because there shouldn't be; the hardware support is still a little spotty, and it was never really designed for general-purpose use. Chromebooks are #1 priority, and everything else comes afterwards.

That being said, ArnoldtheBat has prebuilt disk images that you can slap on a USB stick, and then you can install it to your main drive from there.

Anyhow, after some more research it seems like Chromium is not really offered separately from a Chromebook, that's not a problem. Only looking for a version that will install nice on that Asus Transformer, LiLi is recommended to write the image on the USB stick in all cases?

Win32DiskImager seems to be only doing the job with *.img files, most of the images I have found are *.tar or *.gz

Any good image to recommend for this machine?

Kind regards.

Just to clear things up:
- Chromium OS is... Chromium OS.
- Chrome OS is the official Chromebook-only build of the open-source Chromium OS.

The best build IMO is ArnoldtheBat's "special" build, which has extra drivers:

This one comes in a .7z file. .7z, .tar.gz, .tar, and variants are all just archive files. You need a tool like 7-Zip in order to extract the image files within. Write it to a USB, make sure it boots correctly and such, and then hit Ctrl-Alt-T and run "install". Note that this will wipe out your whole hard drive!!

There are several chromebooks that can be used as notebook or tablet,
including the lenovo Yoga 11e, which I use.
