Hi all!
I am trying to install Windows 10 (via USB flash drive) on my Samsung Chromebook 3 and I am running into an issue when I hit ctrl+l.

What happens is that when a ctrl+l, two beeps occur and I cant load into the usb window.  I have seen numerous posts on the web about the exact same problem and all of them come to one of two conclusions:

1. I have to enable usb booting by hitting ctrl+alt+forward arrow, then I have to type in   sudo crossystem dev_bott_usb=1 dev_bot_legacy=1

or

2. My chromebook is an ARM powered Chromebook in which I am not able to bring up the usb screen.

Now the first suggestion I tried numerous times on my Chromebook and has never worked (meaning I still consistently get the same two beeps).  For the second conclusion that the web has made, my Chromebook has in Intel processor inside and has the Intel sticker on the below the keyboard.

I have let my chromebook die (or run completely out of power) before which I heard could be part of the problem.
Please help me to fix this problem so that I can successfully go to the usb booting screen.

Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew,

1. I have to enable usb booting by hitting ctrl+alt+forward arrow, then I have to type in   sudo crossystem dev_bott_usb=1 dev_bot_legacy=1

If your Chromebook supports USB booting and Legacy booting you can enable it using the commands you noted above,
although the syntax shown is a little off, it should be: sudo crossystem dev_boot_usb=1 dev_boot_legacy=1

You stated that you have the Samsung Chromebook 3, if so, I believe that uses an Intel CPU, not an ARM chip.
See 'Developer Information for Chrome OS Devices' for a list of devices, boards, CPUs, etc.
That page lists your Chromebook as follows:

Manufacturer Model              Project code name   Board name(s) Base board Architecture
Samsung            Samsung Chromebook 3   Celes                  celes           strago     Celeron N3050

On that page, some Chromebooks have a live link that takes you to a page that shows more details including if it supports USB booting and Legacy booting.
Unfortunately, the Samsung Chromebook 3 doesn't have such a link so I can't tell if it supports booting via Ctrl+U and Ctrl+L.

2. My chromebook is an ARM powered Chromebook in which I am not able to bring up the usb screen.

If the information we see is wrong and your Chromebook does have an ARM chip, then it will not support Legacy booting,
also, M$ does not support ARM chips on anything other than Windows RT.

You can find the version, platform, and firmware your Chromebook is using by navigating to URL: chrome:help
Then look at the three lines that show that info., for instance, my Dell Chromebook 13 shows:

Version 53.0.2785.13 dev (64-bit)
Platform 8530.11.0 (Official Build) dev-channel lulu
Firmware Google_Lulu.6301.136.57

If yours shows the 'celes' boardname, then there may be hope, we'll just have to wait for one of the developers to let us know if your Chromebook does support USB and Legacy booting.

I'm having the exact same issue. I'm not trying to install Windows, but I can get it to boot from any other USB drive or SD card either and I've tested the drives on another device so I know they're bootable.

Mine's the XE500C13-K04US with developer mode, dev_boot_usb=1 and dev_boot_legacy=1 and I still can't boot with ctrl+ l
All I get are two very loud beeps and nothing, and I do have a bootable braswell GalliumOS flash drive plugged in when I do that
I'm struggling to get this thing working but I really wanna take this Chrome OS out of the chromebook, more like I want an actual distro running

I tried that, it just beeps once and reloads the white warning screen. I'll try cloning the iso into the flash drive from Windows see if that's works cause I used dd last time

if that still doesn't work, you probably want to ask on the GalliumOS forums instead for assistance.  i don't think anyone here is familiar with it.

CTRL+U should work on all systems today for booting a USB stick with a GPT formatted disk with bootable CrOS partitions.  there's no other dependency here.

CTRL+L (legacy boot) is much more of a mixed bag.  it only works on x86 systems so far (e.g. Intel), and not all systems ship with seabios out of the box.  if you hear beeps when you press that, it most likely means your flash is missing the code, and you'll need to get a blob from somewhere.  like here:
