I want to create a CUPS driver. The filter cannot be run.

PPD file [*cupsFilter: "application / vnd.cups-postscript 0 / home / chronos / user / Downloads / filter] was added, but it doesn't run.

User-installed CUPS filters are not supported on Chrome OS, sorry (we don't allow 3rd-party native code).

Think you so mach.

And The printer is not displayed with "Add a nearby printer".
Will Bonjour not work?
How can I display the printer?

So your open source based OS is not supporting 3rd party open source applications like CUPS?

We do ship CUPS. And you're free to take the source and make a build that includes additional filters, and/or contribute to help improve things.

Mattias & Lewis, Thanks for your reply.

I want to make a CUPS printer driver for Chromebook.
I want to know how far the CUPS printer driver works on ChromeOS.
And I want to know why the printer doesn't show up in "Add a nearby printer".

I'd like to use Xerox B215 printer from ChromeOS. It's not known to ChromeOS, yet it is possible to find a PPD file for it supplied by the manufacturer
(a file Xerox_B215_Linux_PrintDriver_Utilities.tar.gz can be downloaded)
However, the PPD file as supplied does not install, one gets (in slightly broken English)

Advanced printer configuration
File is the wrong format. Check the PPD file and try again.

The reason for it is, I think, is in the line
*cupsFilter:  "application/vnd.cups-raster 0 rastertospl"

Commenting this line out allows the PPD to be installed.

So it looks like the culprit is in rastertospl.
Is rastertospl a propriatary Xerox application (I don't know)?
(It's not one supported by CUPS out of the box, it seems: https://www.cups.org/doc/raster-driver.html#CREATE)

What can be done do get rastertospl (again, I don't know whether Xerox has it's own version, or whether
it can be used for other printers...) into ChromeOS/ChromiumOS?

----------------------------

(Internet is full of complaints about inability to install printers on ChromeOS using PPD files, I gather many of these are due to exactly
this kind of problem)

Thanks
Dima

+Sean Kau back in. (In future, it's probably best to start a new thread rather than resurrecting one from a couple of years ago.)

rastertospl is a proprietary filter.  PPDs using that filter will not work in ChromeOS unless the OEM releases it as open source.
