Hello all,
I got an old CR-48 who was in great condition and working nicely (never used it a lot) and during those holidays I decided to try to install Linux on it.
I followed the instructions here:
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Installing_Ubuntu_on_a_Chromebook_CR-48but I forget to do the first step called "Disabling BIOS protection".
All in all I did:
1) put the device in developer mode and rebooted it and got a terminal on it
2) saved the original BIOS (no issue at all) with "flashrom" using:
"flashrom -r backup.bin "
3) tried to flash the custom BIOS with "flashrom -w cr48.bin"
... but got as result some "writing errors" obviously because I did not do the "Disabling BIOS protection" step.
"flashrom" told me not to reboot the machine and unfortunately my power cable got disconnected (as I had the battery removed).
4) tried to reboot the machine and got the "Chrome OS is missing or damaged. Please connect a recovery device"
5) so I did created a USB stick as a recovery device for my CR-48 (thru the Chromebook Recovery Utility here:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chromebook-recovery-utili/jndclpdbaamdhonoechobihbbiimdgai?hl=en6) the recovery USB stick booted normally and re-installed ChromeOS without any issue.
7) I rebooted and I got again the same result as step #4
What I am missing here ? As far as I can see, the fact that I can boot it thru the recovery USB stick shows that my BIOS should be OK, but I may be wrong.
Also, is there a way for me to get a Terminal with that Chrome OS Recovery ? I could not find anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thx,
Fabrice
