You know many parents are fighting with kids and the fact that they can't install linux on their chromebooks.
What's crazy is that schools can enable linux on our kids accounts (at least that's doable but you have to cross fingers)

The question is that family link is not able to manage linux apps.

Easy solution: create an appimage repository like  https://github.com/Nitrux/nx-software-center which will allow to install only some linux apps which will be managed by family link

Difficult solution: integrate timekpr solution in family link and let us get crazy with it.

Leave the "dumb" toggle on as default (which is the current situation) for all those parents who don't know what linux is and are happy to have the android VM only.

If you have Family Link, the device should not let you enable the Linux Subsystem at all. If some how you did, Family Link will not manage linux apps. (hence why it will not let you enable it). I do not see why you would have your child using Linux if they are under 13, and if they are over 13, why are you still using family link. I would say the best bet is to get a windows laptop, and use the Linux Subsystem for Windows, if it is just for python, coding, and commands. If not, there are not many ways to manage linux like that
