Hi all,

My Linux for some reason stopped working on my Chromebook (Pixelbook Go). I cannot open a terminal, my Linux apps are all gone, and when I open crosh and do `vmc` it returns

crosh> vmc
This command is not available.
[ERROR:src/main.rs:184] ERROR: command failed

However, when I click the Linux (Beta) in the Settings I see that it seems to think that Linux is still installed and that I have the option to Remove it.

The three things that might have triggered this:
  1. I updated to the latest ChromeOS (Version 86.0.4240.198 (Official Build) (64-bit))
  2. My Chromebook was managed by an organization and they just released our Chromebooks from our organization.
  3. I removed all the files from my Downloads folder
Would love any thoughts or help that anyone has!

Thanks,
Stanley

What happens when you attempt to remove it and re-add it?

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the response! Sorry, I should have clarified, I haven't tried yet since there were some files that I was trying to save / recover before wiping it. I'm less concerned about the Linux not working than the potential data loss. (And I'm very much regretting not following the standard recommendations of not saving everything on a Chromebook to the cloud now.)

Best,
Stanley
