Hi, I'm struggling on installing OpenVpn and other softwares on my Chromebook ACER 314 as i'm often asked to write my Linux version in the Terminal.

But i didn't find a way to know that information.

How can I know if i'm running on Debian or Ubuntu (or other) and which version of it?

For example I want to install OpenVpn on my Chromebook but without knowing which version of Linux I use I don't know which input I have to enter in the terminal.

Does anyone can help me?

Thanks.

uname -a will show you your kernel version

cat /etc/issue will give you your Linux distribution

cat /etc/debian_release gives you the specific Debian minor version (sort of the patch level)
