Hi, I've been having a bit of a problem getting my MFC-L2710DW working with chromebook.
I'm not using cloud print and trying to connect via local wifi or via USB..
- Sometimes "Add Nearby Printer" finds printer via wifi. When it does, it configures an IPP connection, and if I print a test page nothing happens, but it says the page printed.
- I tried manually configuring the printer via different queues, such as /BINARY_P1 as suggested by some forum posts I've read, with no luck. When I do so, printing a test page causes a print job that never completes.
- I tried manually using different protocols, such as LPD and also get print jobs that never complete.
- I tried manually using app socket, when I did so, it asked for a PPD file. I provided one that I use in ubuntu, and it rejects the PPD file.
- I plugged in the printer via USB and tried adding the printer, it asks for PPD file, and again rejects it.
I also configured the printer in ubuntu using the official Brother driver and instructions. I did so via USB (usb://Brother/MFC-L2710DW) and via wifi (it uses socket://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). I found out a very strange thing when doing so -- if I try printing via IPP from chromebook it makes my printer stop working! I had to power cycle it again before my ubuntu jobs would be submitted and completed!
I've attached the PPD file that comes with the brothers driver. This is rejected by chrome os for some reason. If it wasnt I imagine I could duplicate the ubuntu configuration using usb and app socket.
If anyone has pointers on getting wifi (not cloud) printing and usb printing working on this, please let me know. I can provide more detail if necessary (I'm technical, but not well versed in cups and printing).
