Hello,

I tried to make my chromebook into a Linux machine - but I fear that will not happen. I went through the entire process of removing the keyboard etc, and finally moved the switch. However, upon pressing the power button......nothing. Nothing with just the battery, nothing with just AC power, nothing at all. Can anyone point me in the right direction? is there something I missed? Or is this perfectly good laptop just dead weight now?

Thanks.

flipping the switch wouldn't make it not boot. sounds more like you might have missed putting a connection back together correctly. I suggest you disassemble it again and double check all the wires as you reassemble. if you're careful, you don't need to fully assemble the device to test it -- if you have power and display and keyboard, you can often get it to cycle on. that way you know some things are correct.

I do not have a Lenovo x131e Chromebook, but an Acer C720. I was just
curious about that (other) procedure of disabling the wp of the ROM. In
the C720 it's just a screw, directly located behind the back cover, in
the Lenovo x131e Chromebook you have to disassemble a lot of stuff (I
even pulled down the PDF maintenance document). Why is this implemented
in such a hard way, even difficult to reach for support staff when flashing
the device...

hardware design is by partners, not Google. we require a minimal level of difficulty, but that's it. if you have a question about a specific device, only the company that made it (Lenovo here) can really answer.

in general though, I don't think it's unreasonable to make disabling the wp hard because it's so dangerous and so uncommon for people to want to do.

Well, I just took everything apart (as much as I could), and put it back together, still nothing. I have no clue what to do next. I cannot take it back to the school IT department as we signed a contract saying they are not responsible for it anymore, but we can keep them.

i'm afraid the answer is still the same: decompose it, double check the connections, and try to get a minimal set of things connected & working before assembling further.  or find someone in your local area who can help and has experience messing around with disassembled devices.

since you opened up the case, it's pretty much guaranteed you've voided the warranty, so you won't get help from Lenovo.  it sounds like you got the device 2nd hand from a place that isn't interested in helping either.

you could try the public forums too.  someone there might be willing to troubleshoot things remotely:

generally speaking, the expectation is that if you're willing to open up the computer and mess around with its internals, you're also willing in figuring out why it doesn't work anymore when it doesn't work anymore.

As Mike says, decompose it again. And describe here exactly step by step
what you are decomposing and after this what you are re-composing again.
The steps should follow the manual x131e_chrome_hmm_en_0c10473_01.pdf
Do you have it and have read it? Mails like 'Bump because ...'
will no help, neither us nor you. Be glad already, that someone reads and ignores
such lines, but is willing to respond.

if i was in your shoes, Lucas, i would be searching on all possible keywords that describe your issue. i can remember reading about many problems like yours , but not specifics. it occurs to me somebody has found a solution. and btw check all connections even if you did not touch them before.
