Hey Guys

I know this sounds crazy but my Chromebook acer c7 has just been acting funny.
I was on Facebook when i got a message from a friend saying something about a video about me. so i clicked it and it said to install a extension to view it, knowing that chrome os is "virus proof" i installed it and it installed and then the page closed.

Now cos of that my facebook friends have been receiving the same link to view it.
when i try to open the extensions tab it automatically closes and when i try to reset my browser settings it closes all tabs and doesn't do anything.

is there a way to to remove all my extensions from my account and Chromebook
Thanks in advance

Extensions can have access to all of your web data and navigations, so you should only install extensions that you trust. You don't need to install extensions to view videos online, and this is usually a phishing attack.

Seems like this extension is deliberate malware and should probably be blacklisted. Can you get a link to that extension, or a copy of the URL that this extension is sending to your friends?

Adding some folks to CC that may know better how to deal with malware and disable that extension from your Chromebook.

You can disable the extension by going to chrome://extensions (type that URL in the URL bar) and uninstalling it.

If the extension prevents you from opening that page then you can open chrome://settings, click "Show advanced settings" at the bottom, then scroll all the way down and click "Reset browser settings". This will uninstall all extensions.

I don't have a good idea if the extension also prevents you from navigating to the settings page...

There's another solution for removal at

Go to the menu Settings -> Tools -> Task Manager -> select "Extension: Facebook Video Plugin" and click "End process". Then you can finally open the chrome://extensions page and uninstall it.

I had same problem 10 minutes ago.
Just go to "C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions" and delete that extension folder.
Then in task manager shut down chrome and open it again and your problem  should be solved.
However since that happened to me i want to ask you if you had any problems with it.
Did you lost e-mail passwords and credit card numbers etc ....

this group is about Chromium OS only, but you're using Windows, so your suggestion doesn't make sense here

Yes, you can revert it to default settings.  I had a nasty extension, drove me NUTS, it acted like a virus, pointed all my Chrome Browsers to the Ask.com home page... It was especially horrible on my Chromebook.   Once I found and removed the "nasty" ... rebooting & relaunching on all my platforms cleaned it up.  W8, Ubuntu, Chromebook, Rpi, ... it was awful!

Good Luck!

Hi there, i have a windows 10 PC , and , i was searching for tools for the job, but, i dont know at what moment i install that stupid extension, when i go to the configuration and clic the extension tab, it closes automatically, i read the solution of FinalBoss Alex, it looks can help, but, i dont know, i will tell you, i have 2 options here.
1.- Reset from the configuration pane of chrome
2.- Erase the folders of the Extensions path in windows

In my case the extension's icon appeared in the upper right hand corner of the the Chrome browser. I was able to "right click" on it and then selected the "Remove from Chrome..." option. That seems to have corrected the problem.
