On my Framework Chromebook using beta versions 15278.29.0 / 110.0.5481.32 I can no longer backup my penguin container, which I had been able to do in the past.

When I select Backup and choose the file name the backup notification is displayed but it almost immediately fails with the below message:

I have looked for errors in dmesg & chrome:system#crostini but could not find anything relevant, at least to a novice.
I see a chrome:system#crostini_crosvm.log but it's empty or non-existent since it won't 'expand'.

Can anyone point me to a log file or something that explains why the backup is now failing?

There is an old crbug that was 'fixed & closed', below:
But this is a new issue and not one that I alone am seeing.

It would be awesome if the error message displayed is more explanatory so that we can determine the root cause and fix it.

Thanx,
~DennyL

I just now tried to use a manual 'lxc' method of backup, first grabbing a snapshot which failed, then publishing the container which also failed.
I had been able to do both of these operations in the past but now they are both failing too, see below:

Your email reminded me I hadn't backed up in a few weeks so I gave it a try. I get a successful backup but I am on 111. I generally back up at least once per version unless I install new software or make big changes. Files are synced off device. I should have noticed an issue with 110 but it is entirely possible I didn't.

How much free space do you have on your chromebook and how large is the disk on your container?

Keith,

My Chromebook shows:

     chronos@localhost ~ $ df -h ~/
Filesystem                         Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
      /dev/mapper/dmcrypt-c391b783-data  389G  154G  216G  42% /home/chronos/user

And my container shows:

     dennyl@penguin:~$ df -h ~/
Filesystem      Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
      /dev/vdb         24G   17G  6.5G  72% /

When I run 'lxc publish penguin --alias backup' it gets to 87% and then fails with the error message:

Error: lstat /mnt/stateful/lxd/containers/penguin/rootfs/var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin: no such file or directory

Which doesn't make much sense to me.

I don't think space is the issue but I could resize the VM/container and see if it helps - if warranted.

Try to increase the disk size to 40-50 GB and try again.
