We've previously utilized ASUS Chromebox devices in combination with Planar Touchscreens and they have worked out of the box.
Recently, we purchased an HP Chromebox that did not work in the same fashion.

Basically, the Planar device recognizes touch input, but only as a single click wherever the cursor happens to be resting. A touch cannot control the location of the cursor, only indicate a click.

Additional Details
  • The Planar model is a PS4660T and the HP Chromebox is J5N52UT running Chrome OS 43.0.2357.130.
  • The Planar has worked with full touch compatibility with both an ASUS M075U Chromebox running Chrome 42.0.2311.153 as well as a Mac Mini running Mac OS Mountain Lion.
  • Additionally, the HP Chromebox worked immediately out of the box with our Dell Touchscreen st2220t.

After speaking with Chrome OS Support they suggested enabling the "Enable Touch Events" option on chrome://flags but this didn't work either.

Any suggestions or is this a current hardware incompatibility?

We're seeing the same results for Asus Chromebox M107U on the same touch screen. Official response from Planar is that Chrome OS is unsupported. Are there commercial touch screens that officially support Chrome OS?

Can you try updating the Chromebox to the beta channel build?

There's a bug filed, see http://crbug.com/508542.

Just updated the bug report. M44 (beta-channel) works, but X/Y is flipped.

Fixed by changing rotation in Windows 8 via Planar (Lumio) utility.
