Hello,
We have many chromeOS devices in our environment, but we were asked to look into Chromium as a way to get some extra life out of our old hardware. This is fine for stationary devices, but for laptops it's an issue. Everything else works here, with the exception of being able to screenshare by casting to a chromecast. We heavily utilize this feature witch purpose build Chromebooks. Is there a piece here that I just can't seem to find? Should this be working?

are you asking about Chromium on Windows/macOS, or Chromium OS ?

if it's the former, you'll want to ask in a browser group instead ... we only cover Chromium OS here.

Specifically I'm asking about Chromium OS. We installed to the hardrive of a Dell Latitude E6520. It came up great, Wifi is all good. The only problem is it can't cast to a chromecast. Purpose built ChromeOS chromebooks work just fine, which made me come here to ask. Is it supported?

on the OS side, we don't have anything special to Chromecast.  i'm not sure if the Chromium builds include this code ...

let's hassle Lambros as he might know.

Anyone hear back about this? Curious if you had a chance to confirm or deny whether the chromium OS builds should hold the ability to screenshare with chromecast?

Hi Kyle

I just tried quickly in Flint OS and chromecast isn't working out of the box. We haven't done anything to try and enable it yet though. Might just be something simple to enable.

Hey Kyle,

CloudReady is maintained by us with automatic updates (the same background mechanism that Chromebooks use) and support for almost any PC or Mac made in the last 10 years.

We also provide additional controls in the settings menu to install other things that Chromium OS typically lacks : Flash, various proprietary media codecs, and Widevine DRM (enabling Netflix and Amazon Prime).

Finally - if you purchase licenses you can manage multiple devices via Google's admin console.
