Accessibility in Chrome OS

Hi,
I'm curious to know what is planned to make Chrome OS accessible to
screen readers, low vision users, and high contrast needs of users. I
am not a screen reader user or developer, but I raise the question for
others' sake.

I have seen articles for Chromium, but not yet for Chromium OS. If the
two are essentially interchangeable, then perhaps my understanding of
how the two are related is to blame.

Does anyone have any information on this topic?

Hi Jay,

You're right that many of the solutions for Chrome will work on Chrome OS, too. There are several Chrome extensions that help with accessibility, including one developed here at Google, and all of these should work great on Chrome OS.

These are useful today for someone with low vision or someone who can't use a mouse, but we know that none of these is a replacement for a screen reader. All I can say now is that we're aware of the need and we've got some ideas under development, but we're not ready to announce any specific plans just yet.

Great! Thanks for such a quick reply.

I appreciate that Google is thinking about these things now in the
early development stages. Being highly capable in this area could give
Chromium OS a huge boost among the communities that need this
technology.
