Hi there,

I'm a newbie to Linux and trying to test out Chromium OS. I tried out
the developer guide first, but then found out that I could use the
Quick Start Guide instead. I got to creating a chroot in the developer
guide, then switched to the Quick Start guide. At "Building Chromium
OS", I received this error:

kiron@ubuntu:~$ cros_sdk -- ./build_packages --board=${board}
ERROR: Couldn't find the chromite tool cros_sdk.

Please change to a directory inside your Chromium OS source tree
and retry. If you need to setup a Chromium OS source tree, see
http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/developer-guide

Do you have any idea of what went wrong?

Thanks,

Kiron

You want to run cros_sdk from the same directory you ran repo init in.  It looks like you're running it from your home directory instead.

pretty sure this error message said what was wrong and how to fix it:
"Please change to a directory inside your Chromium OS source tree and retry."

Please respond to the list.  It helps you if I'm not around to respond and helps others who have a similar problem see the resolution.

I entered "cd ${SOURCE_REPO}" before "cros_sdk -- ./build_packages --board=${board}" and it still didn't work. Isn't that the right directory?

I'm guessing SOURCE_REPO isn't actually set.  Its meant as a shortcut for the directory you installed your source in.  You might have set it earlier with SOURCE_REPO=<something>, but if you started a new shell or relogged the value would have been reset to nothing.

I'd also recommend that you spend some time learning about linux in general.  While its not strictly needed to work on Chromium OS, having a decent understanding of how to use and navigate a linux system (and the related pieces) will help you a lot with the build environment and tools.  The documentation assumes that people are familiar with Linux already so may not be precise enough for someone new to Linux.

Double unbye,
