How to install steam (via linux) games on external hard drive.

For some reason, I'm not really able to mount the hard drive, and I don't really know how I'm supposed to get steam to access the external hard drive I've attached to my chrome book. I'm sharing it with Linux and everything and I don't think I really get how to get steam to actually use the drive. Thank you in advance if you can find a solution, or even for reading.
