Hello,
Sorry for such a beginners question!
This question grew from attempts to sign into a new build of Chromium OS
and receiving the 'Something Went Wrong' error.
It's been directed to change the rootfs to RW.
I found this:

sudo /usr/share/vboot/bin/make_dev_ssd.sh --force --remove_rootfs_verification
sudo crossystem dev_boot_signed_only=0
sudo mount -o remount,rw /

From a shell, the first command seemed to work.

sudo crossystem dev_boot_signed_only=0 yielded:

Failed to set parameter dev_boot_signed_only

sudo mount -o remount,rw / seemed to work, but after a reboot
the rootfs remained ro.

Subsequently, I executed the following:

sudo crossystem 2>&1 | grep dev_boot

and all three dev_boots (usb, legacy, and signed_only) listings showed as <error>

Should those dev_boot listings have a value at that point?
Why is sudo crossystem dev_boot_signed_only=0 failing?
Am I using the wrong procedure?
Any help for this beginner would be appreciated.

Thanks

crossystem most likely will never work for you when using Chromium OS on non-Chromebooks
