Hi, my father has an old PC that runs very slowly. I've been considering possibly suggesting a Chromium OS upgrade. He mainly uses it for watching movies and browsing the web. I was wondering if there is any way to watch DVDs on the drive already in the computer either with a built in feature or through an add-on such as VLC. Thanks.

Chrome OS offers no such feature.  but if you're talking Chromium OS, you can build in whatever programs you want ... but you'd still have to open a command line shell and run them by hand.

It is Linux, so if you go through the efforts with Chromebrew or Crouton, then you can set something up for him.

if you wanna to change some digital files such as MKV, VOB , WMV, MPG, MOV , FLV files, even the Blu-ray or DVD files to MP4 for playback on Chromebook, the all-in-one Brorosft Video Converter Ultimate program will a nice choice for you. It is a yet professional all-in-one Blu-ray Ripper, DVD Ripper and HD Video and Audio Converter, which comparatively has better output quality, in particular HD videos and intuitive interface. What's more, its deinterlacing function and merging, cropping, trimming, adding subtitles ability are what its many competitive products lack of. If you are Mac users, please turn to iMedia Converter for Mac

$55? You can probably do all that with FFmpeg or dvdvideosoft's Free Studio.

Won't that be easier just get a bluray or dvd player and watch it on the big screen ?
Or if it's the same set of DVD, just upload it to youtube once and watch from anywhere.
