Hello, can you develop a “Safe Mode” for non-managed accounts (I don’t want a wave of “unblocked everything” methods) that occurs when you hit a key combo while logging on. This temporarily disables ARCVM from starting up, and temporarily disables all extensions and chrome apps.

You mean guest mode? Because that's exactly how it behaves, no android apps or extensions unless maybe it has ones pushed on a managed device.

A recovery mode would actually do wonders, having a lightweight version of the OS for admin tasks will be really helpful especially for things that doesn't need a powerwash.

CrOS doesn't really have "admin tasks" in the first place.  what, exactly, is it that you want to do ?

CrOS recently launched "safe default" reset which is a lighter weight version of powerwash:

A 'Safe mode' was actually submitted as a feature request back on Oct. 2016, see below:

The feature request bug was closed as 'Fixed' on  Nov. 2022

It was hoped that experimental flags, finches & extensions would be disabled and syncing of apps, extensions, etc. be disabled so that the user could sign-in with a clean slate allowing them to reenable what they want.

Another related feature request was submitted internally, see below:

It appears that only 'crashy chrome' has been addressed but it's hard (for me) to follow what was done and what's still in place.

the "safe reset" i linked to should accomplish the things you described -- reset flags & extensions

Mike,

Yes, thanx for mention of that, it's a very nice new feature and accomplishes much of what was requested.

We have seen a number of issues in the Chromebook forum like the ones linked below:

We've escalated the posts above and others internally and the chromeOS PSM team is actively monitoring them but has not come back to us with any updates yet.
We've asked the users to please file a feedback report if possible with the hashtag '#login'. Part of the problem is that they can't file feedback using the account they're trying to sign-in with.

Having the ability to sign-in to your account with some kind of safe-mode option would still be a very beneficial feature for the above issues and others like them and might still warrant consideration.
