Like 3 days ago I tried to boot up my Samsung Chromebook XE500C21 and an error screen comes up saying:

Chrome OS missing or damaged
Please connect a recovery device.

Model: SAMS ALEX EPSILON-US 45-07

Additionally if I hit tab it says

HWID: SAMS ALEX EPSILON-US 4507

Recovery Reason 0x02

But earlier it said the following:

HWID: SAMS ALEX EPSILON-US 4507

Recovery Reason 0x42

I've also installed the recovery OS on a 16GB empty memory stick(USB) on 2 different Windows 10 computers. And booted it with the OS on a memory stick in the computer.

What are my options here?
Is there something else I can try?
Maybe its the hardware that's the problem?

the first one:
    /* User manually requested recovery via recovery button */
    VB2_RECOVERY_RO_MANUAL = 0x02,
which implies you triggered it by pressing the recovery button (or the dev mode switch?).

the second one:
    /* No OS kernel detected */
    VB2_RECOVERY_RW_NO_OS = 0x42,
that means it found the harddrive, but there's no recognized Chrome OS install.

so did you try inserting the USB stick w/a recovery image and recoverying the device ?
