This is probably a very basic question. I'm glad no one knows who I
am. I have a Dell. I find that the screen resolution is acceptable at
16. However, when I make the change, apply it, and save it, within a
short period of time it reverts to 8. I can't get the change to stick.
Ideas?

Are you booting off of a usb stick? You might need to allow write permissions to the places where settings are stored. If you can describe how your Dell is set up a little better, that would help. Also let us know where you are making the change, like in the settings menu, or are you changing a configuration file.

I think the power manager will generally try to keep the resolution
that it thinks should be set.
You could try running 'sudo stop powerd' and see if it stops changing
your resolution after you set it.
