One thing about the Chromium OS install script is that by default it overwrites any hard drive on the target computer with the Chrome OS image, so that method won't work. And if you are thinking about putting Chromium OS on a hard drive, good luck because it only supports SSDs.

The second part is false, as far as I know.  We tune for SSDs, but I don't think we do anything to exclude spinning disks.  But, it's true that we don't do anything to play nicely in a dual boot environment.

Well I'm sure if you have Linux as a middleman you could triple-boot. That being: Use GParted to make room for Chromium OS on the drive, and then dd the Chromium OS image to the newly created partition. Or, use a Linux Live CD to do it.

I think, if you have enough hard disk memory alongside good supporting
RAM, it wont be a problem, like we do it with Linux. I suppose Chrome
OS would lie on the principle of low memory requirements.

I have installed it on spinning disks with no problem at all. In fact,
it runs like a charm on Acer Aspire One 250GB disk. :)

It IS possible to install Chromium OS next to Windows, but it's quite
tricky to setup. I did it last week on my Aspire One D250.

I wrote up how I did it here: http://www.squidoo.com/build-a-chromebook#module150247988
- there are other ways of doing it, but this method does it without
messing with the MBR and so is reasonably safe to do (as long as you
don't screw up your partitions).

Has anyone tried adding a swap partition on swapfile to a spindle
installation? It is worth experimenting with?
