I have no trouble compiling Chromium OS, and putting it on a flash
drive with ./image_to_usb. But I want my friend to try Chromium OS as
well!

How would someone in Windows write the chromiumos_image.bin file to a
flash drive? I've looked at "dd for windows", but it doesn't seem to
have the oflag option that's used in the script.

Tried again to use w32-image-writer, and this time it worked. Could
it be because I newly formatted the drive? I couldn't find a lot of
information on what the oflag=sync option does, except fill extra
space (at the end of the drive?) with NULLs.

I guess you confused it with conv=sync which is a different option.

AFAIU oflag=sync just ensures that (meta)data actually reaches disk
and not pending in caches.

Thanks!

So, even though it'd be slow, shouldn't this work?

dd if=chromiumos_image.bin of=/dev/sdb

I'm still having trouble. Might be hardware error. Can anyone else
confirm the above command?

I would add bs=16M to that (which gets better performance), but yes,
that should work.

Thanks for all the help. Must have been my drive, W32 Disk Imager is
working great now.

Here's a link to the vanilla build BTW:
