We definitely care about our Swedish users. Unfortunately, some older
devices don't have the necessary hardware to support all the
virtualization bits. I really hope you don't switch back to MS.

No google dont care

If google cares about Swedish customers google should inegrate it in more devices

e.g

asus flip 101: seems not in sweden

samsung plus: same here

hp chromebook x2:unsure

and asus flip 100 are not so old

no, google seems i have to say bye

and good luck to lock out customers

I am not sure why you are thinking this is an issue impacting Swedish users, in reality it has nothing to do with that. Please keep in mind that Crostini is still in development and has only rolled out to a very small number of devices, none officially support it on the Stable channel. There is a large amount of work needed to bring this feature to devices - and it is still not production ready IMHO.

It will eventually roll out to devices with the proper hardware throughout the year. There was not an official list of devices that are not getting Crostini nor timelines. The choice on what devices will get it and wont will be solely based on hardware - not location.

Microsoft is not immune to this as they also have not rolled out Linux support (WSL) to all devices yet. Microsoft has targeted devices that have proper hardware and software (CPU must support hardware virtualization and the user must be on a 64 bit OS)

Mattias : Nationality has nothing to do with it. If you buy a Chromebook for which a new feature is under development, you are taking a gamble. I bought a HP Chromebook 13 G1 last year, for which Android was not available at the time of purchase. It is now, although certain features, such as automatic screen rotation, are not available because the G1 doesn't have a motion sensor. Will my G1 eventually be able to run Crostini? I have no idea, but Crostini wasn't on the horizon when I bought it.

If I really want to run Linux (and having done so in the past, I probably won't, as Linux can be more of a time sink than I am willing to deal with), I can always put it into Dev mode, and run Crouton, which works very nicely.

I have a rather old desktop iMac, for which Apple has released its last version of OS X. Some newer software require a newer release of OS X, so I can't run it. That's the way things are.

Your Chromebook, whatever model you have, will eventually reach an EOL date, after which further Chrome OS updates are not guaranteed.

Hej fran Sverige, Selden! Big Chrome fan and G Suite for Education user and was psyched to see this development. Wanting to know more I came across your post -- not surprising. Trust you are well and that consulting is rewarding but not required. --Chris

Requirements for Termina is pretty simple:

1. CPU's must support Hardware Virtualization, aka no BayTrail Models
2. Any chromebook with a kernel version 3.10 or older is screwed
3. Only 64-bit processors.

You can check your laptop's stats here, and the official wiki post is here.

As long as your Chromebook follows those three criteria, then you should be fine, just wait. Just because they announced it at the Google I/O doesn't mean it's ready to be deployed on every Chromebook ever made.
