chromeos-devsetpasswd blank password prevents chronos access

I added a chronons password using chromeos-setdevvpasswd. Later I had a change of heart and ran the command again, this time I entered a blank line (just hit enter when prompted) for setting the new password. Now when I try and login with any password (the old or the blank) I am given a message saying I have the wrong login credentials.
