Before I attempt: Is it possible to tether a phone (i.e. to use the wireless data connection) to a Chromebook? I suppose if the phone can be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot (Galaxy Nexus?), it might be possible, though I don't know about USB tethering...

I use my old TouchPro2 running XDAndroid to tether mine. ;)

I'm still eager for Chromebooks to become hotspots, themselves.

Sorry, accidentally sent to Tyler directly instead of to the group...

Okay, what I meant to say is, is it possible to tether a Galaxy Nexus to a Chromebook? And can a Galaxy Nexus be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot?

Yes, a Galaxy Nexus can be used as a wifi hotspot and a Chromebook can use it.  I do this routinely with a t-mobile prepaid "Monthly 4G plan" which is pretty economical.

You can also enable USB Tethering on a Nexus phone, after which it will appear to the chromebook as a USB 3G dongle.  I'm not sure if there is a material advantage to this, but I guess it should use less electrical power on both sides since you can leave the WiFI off.

Thanks. And thanks for letting me know that USB tethering is also possible, because based on all the issues with USB 3G modems not being supported it made me a little skeptical.

Some USB 3G dongles present as a modem that needs to be managed, and some just present as (essentially) a USB ethernet adaptor.  I'd figure that most phones would behave more like the latter.  I remember doing USB tethers almost two years ago, and so I'd hope that it still works :-)

Yes, USB and Wifi tethering work fine between my Acer Chromebook and
both my Nexus One and my new Galaxy Nexus. If you'll be doing this a
lot, you'll want to install one of the apps in the Market that provide
a shortcut to turn on tethering. I used to use 'Tethering Widget' but
it doesn't work on the Galaxy Nexus, but 'Tethering Shortcut' does.

I tried USB tethering on a friend's Samsung Chromebook in December of
2010 and it didn't work then but seems they've got it fixed now.
