restoring borked portage

I accidentally removed /var/lib/portage/distfiles in my chroot (I
meant to remove stale files in distfiles-target) and now my builds are
failing at this step:

(cr) ((9afd3a9...)) semenzato@luigi ~/trunk/src/scripts $ sudo eclean
-d packages
!!! /var/lib/portage/distfiles does not appear to be a directory.

!!! Please set DISTDIR to a sane value.

Is there any way of recovering from this without nuking the entire checkout?

OK, all I had to do was sudo mkdir /var/lib/portage/distfiles. Thanks
to Gwendal!
