esc + pwr + refresh combo not working

Good morning,

My chromebook randomly shut off and now shows the "ChromeOS is missing or damaged screen. I made a USB to recover, but I can't get to the recovery screen, because every time I do the key combo the chromebook shuts down instead of restarting at the screen. The only way to turn it on again after this is to take apart the chromebook, unplug the battery, and plug in a power source into the motherboard. How can I fix this?

the "ChromeOS is missing or damaged screen" is the recovery screen.  inserting a valid USB recovery image should automatically start the process.

if that isn't working, you should reach out to either Google ChromeOS support channels or the company that made your device (HP/ASUS/whoever).

from the missing or damaged screen? using a valid usb recovery that I made with the recovery utility does nothing.

still, it won't work. I have a recovery usb made using the extension. to my knowledge, you can only recover from the screen immediately after you click esc+pwr+ref, but i can't get to that screen. The computer shuts down and doesn't restart again after I press those keys. The only screen the computer boots to is the missing or damaged screen, and it doesn't do anything when the usb is plugged in.

please try the support forums linked in the aforementioned article.  if you aren't able to make progress there, reach out to the manufacturer of your device (HP/ASUS/etc...) for next steps.
