Is it possible to install gentoo packages on chrome os. I'm asking because the wikipedia page says that it's based on gentoo linux. I found some article that mention that linux packages can be installed on chromeos with `apt-get`. I wanted to know if gentoo packages could be installed on chromeos natively (without any virtualization).

Note: I don't have a chrome os machine as of now and I've never used it before.

You can install some console apps with Homebrew (https://github.com/skycocker/chromebrew). But you should notice that Ozone, Chrome OS graphic stack, is not similar to Wayland or X11 window managers, so you can't launch graphic Gentoo programs.

If you have a Chromium OS SDK checkout you can import Gentoo packages and deploy them to a an image built with --no_enable_rootfs_verification, but that is a lot of work as you would have to put your device into dev mode, build your own CrOS image, import, and deploy the Gentoo packages.

Alternatively, you can use crostini to get a linux environment on Chrome OS. There was of building your own container so it is conceivable you could get a gentoo environment to work there, but that would probably be about as much work as building your own CrOS image.

But actually emerge is not working well in CROS SDK chroot.

example:
    $ emerge --search x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers
    [ Results for search key : x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers ]
    Searching...
    [ Applications found : 0 ]

emerge-amd64-generic also cannot search anything.

Anybody know the reason?

You probably need to add additional overlays either from a development machine or from Gentoo to expand the list of available packages beyond what is tested and built for Chrome OS.
