Hi,
I have the sources for chromiumos and i can build a base/dev_image.bin . This contains may errors and is not smooth enough to work.

1) Does google release stable images for BOARD=amd64-generic ? If so can you give me the link ?
2) Can i convert a recovery image to a live image which i can boot from usb ?
This live boot image would help me with the look and feel of chrome os before buying hardware ?

Regards,
Navin

You could grab Neverware CloudReady which is a Chromium OS based distribution that shares all the base code with ChromeOS, it just doesn't have the Play Store and some other proprietary components that Google hasn't included in ChromiumOS due to licensing or other restrictions.

Interestingly Google also recently acquired this company so hopefully they'll continue opening more of ChromeOS to allow people to use it on older devices rather than fighting Windows that is too heavy.

IMHO. I think Google will not open the sources of the Android subsystem. It will kill the existing model and sell the proprietary Chrome OS to manufacturers of vendor unlocked laptops as Microsoft does. This change will help such small companies as Xiaomi and Honor to release the new Chromebooks without any changes in the hardware development process.

People will try Chrome OS because they can return to Windows if something is wrong.
Also, this change will open the Chromebook world to Post-Soviet states, for example. Yes, Russians don't even know about such good devices at all.
