chrome 56.0.2903.0 canary on nyan_blaze doesn't have ectool anymore

any idea where it went?

IIRC there were some changes to limit its inclusion to test/factory images only.

right ... it's not needed in release images, so we made it consistent across boards to help save space

Hello,

As a general beta user I have to inform you that this update to save space has single-handedly bricked my Chromebook.
This is primarily due to the issue of Gen 1 Chromebook Pixel's overheating an issue that was bodged fixed using fan control provided in ectool using such a command:
while true; do sudo ectool fanduty 100; sleep 3; done

Regards,
Toby C

if you have a problem with a device overheating, please file a bug at https://crbug.com/new.  ectool's omission hasn't bricked anything.

if you need ectool, then just
emerge chromeos-base/ec-utils

this assumes you have run dev_install before, however

hi,

i have got a chromebook pixel 2013, and when using ectool fanduty 30, to control fan speed, it stoped within several seconds, and the fan speed return normal. is there any other solution to this?

Emerge doesnt work anymore, being tracked here, https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=842039#

And yes, ectools omission has bricked some chromebook pixel 1 devices as they would overheat without the ectools command.
