Hey all,

I have an HP Chromebook 11, and recently I finally got around to enabling Developer mode. I want to basically be able to run a full Linux CLI in Developer mode. Things like apt-get, and Busybox. Is this something I can do with Chromium OS? I have used Linux for a while, but never even tried using Chromium OS. Is there another solution? I just want things like traceroute, Busybox, and apt-get for command line usage mostly. I know crouton is an option, but I was hoping for something else. I also wouldn't mind fiddling with my Chromebook and/or going all Open Source :D
Anyway, I might just be shooting in the dark, but I was just wondering. Anyway, thanks.

apt-get is for Debian based distros which CrOS is not.  if you want apt, then you'll need to install such a distro.  coincidentally, Crouton does this for you.

Agh, sorry. I thought Chrome OS was based off of Ubuntu, which is a Debian-based system is it not? I use Fedora, so I don't recall. I am installing that right now. Does it include a package manager of any kind?

CrOS is based off of Gentoo.  but only a limited number of binary packages are available (as described by that dev_install page).

if you want to do "a lot", then Crouton is probably your best option.
